R800 – R900

first edition b/w illustrations This book has been rebound in full leather. Thumbed preliminary pages. The pre-title page with frittered edges is of great historical interest. It reflects an unknown aspect of the War …. that library facilities were set up to relieve the tedium of Blockhouse duty for the British troops during the Guerilla stage of the Anglo-Boer War. The inscription reads as follows: “Lady Knox’s (G.O.C. deleted) Blockhouse Library, Kroonstad District No. 3 To be retained in this Blockhouse Line on change of unit by unit” A unique survival of the War. 1600
