THE RED BLUE CHAIR BY GERRIT RIETVELD FOR CASSINA, 1918
with maker's mark and stamped 2880
Rietveld, a well known architect and Dutch designer, was one of the principle members of the De Stijl movement. This chair design was created in 1917 during his cabinet making years, before he became an architect in 1919. It exemplifies one of his first class designs and functionality. He is also famous for his 1924 Schröder House design, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A burst of bright colours and a world class design makes this a must to have for designer furniture lovers.
